In one of those lucky moments I was given a box of 'violin stuff' which a friend had discovered in her late father's effects. In it was the blueprint for a diploma-winning viola made in 1972 by Clifford A.Hoing, along with a booklet of useful information for makers. Having made only violins up to that point (2013) I gave it a try, and the result was surprisingly easy to handle and play, given its 16,3/8" body length.

I went on to make three more to this design. 'Bella' (which is being expertly played-in and lovingly cared for by Sally Simpson Music in Glasgow) is the last one remaining.

Sorry, Sold now!. a new, 151/4" viola is currently in the making.
